Aran Wool Care Guide
-
Hand washing is the safest method. Use cool to lukewarm water (never hot) with a mild, wool-specific detergent.
Gently submerge your garment and soak it for 10–15 minutes.
Avoid twisting, wringing, or rubbing the fabric. Rinse thoroughly until all detergent is removed.
This gentle approach protects the natural fibres and keeps the shape and softness intact.
-
After rinsing, press out excess water by rolling the garment in a clean towel — do not wring it.
Then lay it flat on a dry towel or mesh drying rack in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from direct heat or sunlight.
Gently reshape the collar, sleeves, and edges while damp to maintain the original silhouette.
Never hang wool to dry, as this can cause stretching or misshaping.
-
Merino and Aran wool are naturally odour- and moisture-resistant, meaning you don’t need to wash them after every wear. In most cases, airing them out is enough.
When not in use, fold your wool garments neatly and store them in a breathable cotton bag or drawer.
Avoid plastic storage, and consider adding cedar blocks or lavender sachets to keep moths away.
-
Hand washing is always the preferred method.
Machine washing, even on a wool cycle, can still risk shrinking or damaging the fibres — unless your care label specifically permits it.
If machine washing is allowed, use a cold setting, a gentle spin, and place the item in a mesh laundry bag.
Tumble drying should always be avoided. As for dry cleaning, it’s not required for most wool knits and can be overly harsh over time.
